Saltwater & Pines is a mid-century modern house in the pines off Lakeshore Drive in Fennville, Michigan. Here it is in the order you walk through it, from the front windows to the bedrooms.

01Out front

The windows and the pines

The house sits back from the road in the pines, behind a covered porch. The front wall is glass from floor to ceiling, and every window looks into the woods.

On a still evening the surf at Pier Cove carries up through the trees.

02Inside

The main room

The main floor is one open room: a kitchen with a long island and a professional range, a table for twelve, and a living room around a stone fireplace.

03Out back

The pool

The pool is heated and saltwater, fenced, in a clearing the trees lean over. It is open from late spring through September, about three feet deep with a five-foot end.

The deck above it has a dining table, lounge chairs and a grill, and there is a fire pit past the fence.
